Weekly Greeting: April 2

Easter greetings!

The great Easter hymn, “Christ the Lord is Risen Today,” includes the lyric: “Made like him, like him we rise…” That means the Easter resurrection miracle is not only ‘for’ us, but ‘in’ us!  The writer William Faulkner envisioned it like this: “I believe that (man) will not merely endure: he will prevail. He is immortal, not because he alone among creatures has an inexhaustible voice, but because he has a soul, a spirit capable of compassion and sacrifice and endurance.”

It echoes Jesus’ own sense of purpose: “I have come that (you) may have life and have it with abundance!” We will celebrate that in our three Easter services on April 4th: 6:15 am SonRise ‘In Person’ Service at the Keene’s, 775 N. River Road, Auburn, 8:30 am Easter Service on zoom, and 10 am Easter service live-stream (UMCA Facebook Page, You Tube, UMCA website at www.auburnmethodist.org & 88.3 fm broadcast to the UMCA parking lot).

I have attached to the weekly greeting email copies of the Worship Guide, Easter Memorials, and Mission Opportunities. I have also attached the worship guide and readings for tonight’s 7 pm Maundy Thursday service (the Good Friday service 7 pm worship guide will be sent on the morning of Good Friday). There will also be an ‘in person’ Good Friday service at noon (4/2), UMCA. The Men’s Fellowship Breakfast Group will be meeting at 7:30 am, via zoom, on Saturday, 4/3.

I pray that this week will be a blessed one for you and yours. I look forward to the day when we can all gather together again safely. My wife and I are scheduled for our first vaccine shot on Monday, April 5th in Brunswick. Many of you have already received yours, and I pray that others will soon follow. Thank you for the Easter cards and remembrances–they are truly a blessing of encouragement. Easter people, raise your voices! Alleluia!

May God’s grace be with you,
Pastor Steve Bascom, UMCA
