Weekly Greeting for October 21, 2023 – Bean Supper, Paying Taxes to Caesar, Winter Wear, and More!

Greetings parish,
Good morning! We will be gathering for our first fall Public Bean Supper tonight, serving at 5 pm. Come early to hear the Park Avenue Pickers! I will be in New Hampshire celebrating our granddaughter’s 4th birthday, but I will certainly be with you in spirit. You are welcome to my piece of pie (since I’ll be eating cake)!
On Sunday, October 22nd, our services will focus on Jesus’ interaction with Pharisees around the topic of “paying taxes to Caesar.” Jesus masterfully reframes the question, encouraging us to give to the state its due, while offering God our hearts, minds, souls, and strength. The Park Avenue Pickers will share musical gifts prior to and during the worship service at 10:30 am, a Mission Moment will request ‘winter wear’ material aid for those in need, and the Auburn Art Club will bring greetings.
All are invited to our annual church conference which will be held on November 16th, 6-8 pm, at the Minot UM Church (4 cluster churches are sharing a Conference this year). All members of each church will have vote at their respective church business break-out meetings. Many Waters District Superintendent Arlene Tully will preside with the help of associates.
As the fall rains return to us today, may we remember our baptism and be thankful!
Much joy,
Pastor Steve Bascom (UMC of Auburn/Calvary UMC)
