I am so grateful to all of you for the effort you put into getting your families to church on
a regular basis. As a parent of three grown children, I know, with little ones, it’s not easy
on a Sunday morning. Your families add so much energy and life to our congregation.
In Godly Play, we pray together at Feast time. Your children are relaxed and talkative
after the prayer. The ritual of silence before story time is an honored tradition, and if I
happen to forget it, they remind me. There are all levels of sharing during the
Wondering questions after the story. And during work/play time, they choose different
ways to engage with it (playing with it, coloring, choosing their favorite stories in the
room to use). I am always fascinated with what they choose and how they engage.
This room is their sanctuary. They help set it up, at times, and take part in clean-up.
Vacuuming is a favorite activity.
You might want to ask them about a new ritual we do together on communion Sunday, a
ritual of forgiveness. They are serious and quiet during this time. And afterward they
easily join the adults for communion before they return to the classroom.
This year, 2024, Brenda Bisson and Kathryn Tracy will alternate as doorkeepers with
me.
Mary MacMahon, storyteller, and Betty Young, doorkeeper, are there every Sunday for a
busy group of pre-K to 2nd graders.
Besides a monthly Children’s Moment, the children enjoy those several Sundays a year
when Pastor Steve takes time off from leading the worship service to spend time with
them.
I am always open to questions and comments on Sunday school.
