Weekly Greeting: July 4

Happy Fourth of July Parish!
Let’s begin with a poem by Clara Smith Reber called, “Freedom.”
Freedom is a breath of air, pine-scented or salty as the sea; freedom is a field new-plowed…furrows of democracy! Freedom is a forest, trees tall and straight as men! Freedom is a printing press…the power of the pen! Freedom is a country church, a cathedral’s stately spire; freedom is a spirit that can set a soul on fire! Freedom is our birthright, a sacred, living rampart; a pulsebeat of humanity…the throb of a nation’s heart!”
At our Sunday service (10 am, UMCA facebook live-stream, then posted to our website at www.auburnmethodist.org), we will celebrate our national heritage, join together in communion (please have elements ready so that you may be able to participate from home) and honor the gift of community. It will be great to have Judy Kuhn at the piano once again! I will be unavailable Sunday afternoon, so our weekly Coffee Fellowship Chat will not take place this Sunday. We will back on, though, for 2 pm on Sunday, July 12th. I have attached the Worship Guide for Sunday’s service, as well as a copy of last week’s message. Please feel free to send prayer requests in response to this email.
May this Fourth of July be blessed and safe as we celebrate our nation’s 244th in this year of Maine’s bicentennial,
Much joy!
Pastor Steve Bascom, UMCA
