Weekly Greeting – August 30, 2024 – “Merger News, VIM Updates, Nurturing Spritual Care”

Greetings parish,
Blessed Labor Day weekend! This Sunday, before sharing in holy communion together, we will reflect on Jesus’ guidance for nurturing spiritual care of the heart. That which grows within impacts the world for good or ill, based on the health of our motives. We will hear from the 2024 Volunteers in Mission Team (VIM) regarding their work in Washington County, and will light a candle in loving memory of Marcia Akers (service on Saturday, August 31, 11 am, UMCA/ graveside service September 7th at Gracelawn Cemetery, 10 am).
The Merger Decision church conferences have been POSTPONED. A new date will be announced as soon as possible. We have a buyer for the Calvary church building ($75,000 w/3 years arrangement for City Mission to operate from the basement), but the closing will not be completed until October. That is the reason for the postponed merger-vote date.
The church office will be closed on Monday, September 2nd. Wesleyan Singers choir rehearsals will resume on Tuesday, 4:30 pm. If you wish to participate in choral joy and friendship, please join us! The Men’s Fellowship Breakfast will be on Saturday, September 7th, 7:30 am, UMCA. We will have a special presentation on the use of drones. Feel free to bring a friend.
Rally Sunday is September 8th, with the return of Godly Play church school, Youth Fellowship, choirs, coffee fellowship and such. Welcome back from summer activities!
God’s grace be with you,
Pastor Steve Bascom
