Weekly Greeting: September 3rd, 2023

Greetings Parish,
Happy Labor Day weekend! (Isn’t it nice to see the sun?) When we join together for worship services tomorrow, we will share holy communion and hear a brief presentation by Ken Edgerly on ‘Stephen Ministry.’ We will reflect together on Moses’ holy encounter with God at the burning bush, when he was called to a special work which would forever alter the world as we know it. Our labor, when given to God, has the capacity to transform and heal the world as we know it, too.
When I finish writing this, I will go to the church to help celebrate the life of Paul Levesque. Please hold his family in prayer at this time. I continue to be amazed by the hospitality assistance being offered to asylum seekers in the Lewiston/Auburn area. Thank you to all who are stepping up to help with this! As previously mentioned, we will be painting the ground-accessible part of the UMCA building on September 14-16. We will once again offer volunteer sign-ups tomorrow morning after worship services. We have a great complement for Saturday, but could especially use additional help for Thursday and Friday of that week. Lunch will be provided all three days.
Our Better Together team will be meeting on Tuesday to coordinate the work of preparation for eventual church conference votes on the merger of UMCA with Calvary UMC. There are many questions to explore and respond to, concerns to hear, and property matters to be cared for before any such vote can take place. Your prayers are appreciated.
The Wesleyan Singers, Handbell choir and Park Avenue Pickers will be starting fall rehearsals this week. We would love to have new singers, ringers and Park Avenue Pickers! If you wish to join one or more of these, let me know and I will connect you with their directors. The Men’s Fellowship Breakfast will take place this coming Saturday at UMCA, 7:30 am (September 9th).
NEXT SUNDAY (September 10th), we will honor Rev. Russ Peppe’s UMCA ministry by making him ‘Pastor Emeritus.’ He will preach at the 10:30 am service, which will be followed by an “All-Church Luncheon.” Tributes will be shared at that time. Church School will also resume next Sunday with a ‘Make-Your-Own-Sundae-on-Sunday’ party.
May your weekend be safe and blessed.
Much joy,
Pastor Steve Bascom
