Theologian Elton Trueblood once wrote, “A person has made at least a start
on discovering the meaning of human life when she or he plants shade trees
under which she or he will never sit.” To imagine a future beyond oneself
is the seed of generosity. This week, parish members received an annual
pledge invitation to participate in the ministries of the United Methodist
Church of Auburn in 2026. Please consider your response prayerfully and
thank you for your participation in this vital work! 2026 pledges will be
consecrated on Thanksgiving Sunday, November 23rd.
Tomorrow at worship, we will recognize and celebrate God’s persistence in
awakening miracle from the broken bits of human experience. Though the
ancient temple built by Solomon had been destroyed, a house more glorious
would take its place. God reshapes every crucifixion Friday into an Easter
of new life! We will also honor vets among us who have faithfully served
our nation.
Following worship, our church school and youth group will be visiting
Wallingford’s Fruit-house for an afternoon of autumn family celebration. At
3 pm, we will hold our annual church conference (with four other churches
of our Cooperative Parish) at Brunswick UMC, Brunswick, ME. The two-hour
conference is hybrid (both in person and zoom) and is open to all. I hope
you will join us! All members have vote at this Conference which will be
presided over by our District Superintendent Arlene Tully. The zoom
invitation link for the church conference is included below this message.
On Saturday, November 15th, 11 am, UMCA, we will gather to celebrate the
life of 78-year member Connie Brann who passed away in October. Please hold
Nancy (daughter) and Tim Lander and their family in prayer. On Saturday,
November 22nd, we will hold our annual Shop on Park Avenue holiday fair
from 9 am to 1 pm.
May your weekend be blessed with grace,
Pastor Steve Bascom, UMC of Auburn
